WARNING: SPOILERS AHEAD. Overall, I liked this episode. We got a nice look into Zack’s past and got to see more of his personality. This is definitely positive as it helps us understand more of why Zack became so angry, aggressive, psychopathic, and murderous. I thought this look into his past as well as the tie into the trial Zack and Rachel faced was well done. I have a feeling we will see more of Zack’s past later on and will get to see more of Rachel’s past as well.

I notice that Cathy kept calling them both sinners, and the show keeps making other references to people being sinners, so I am wondering what exactly was Rachel’s sin that caused to be put into this place. The fact that the show keeps making subtle hints at this is something that I find very well done, because it may be carefully veiled foreshadowing. I wonder if even though Rachel seems to have an innocent personality, she may have a dark secret and a dark past. This may also be part of the reason she wants to die. I am looking forward to seeing how this plays out.

I also liked the scene at the with the injection poison. This shows Zack is beginning to care for Rachel, which can factor in nicely to the show’s plot. It is becoming clearer Rachel is clearly not a flawless hero. Although she is not immoral, she does make blunders. Her slow, mellow personality is causing problems and causing her to make mistakes, like removing her gasmask and delaying with her plans to talk about them. She seems to not have strong willpower despite her high intelligence. This is probably going to continue to factor into the show and her blunders may continue to factor into the show’s plot.

Of course, Zack has clear problems of his own, such as his temper and lack of patience. I wonder if we will get much character development from these characters and if they will improve on their flaws as the show goes on. It seems that Rachel and Zack are trying to improve each other’s personalities by giving each other advice and making special requests for each other, and it could come from each other that they gain their character development as the show goes on.

One part of the episode did feel somewhat disappointing though, and that is that the group didn’t have a full showdown with Cathy, at least not yet. I am also wondering if we will find out how Cathy knew about Zack’s past and was able to use it against him. It seems like this may be the last we will see of her, but I am hoping it is not.
