WARNING: SPOILERS AHEAD. Overall I thought The Devil is a Part-Timer Episode 7 was a bit slow at first, but it got better as it went on. The episode was loaded with plot development, which was quite welcome and nice. We got lots of character development as well. The humor was okay at the beginning, but got downright hilarious by the end.
Looking at the humor, the beginning was relatively funny, though I thought some of it could have been a bit better. In particular, the whole drama at the apartment felt a little bit repetitive, like we’ve seen these characters argue a lot already. Toward the end of the episode though, things got amazing. When Satan unveiled the heart part of the bento box to Chi, I literally fell out of my chair and started rolling on the floor laughing. I am not making this up. The whole love drama between Chi and Suzuno is extremely hilarious and very well done. I am looking forward to seeing how this plays out. It made it even funnier when Chi turned to Emilia for help and Emilia freaked out thinking Satan turned evil again.
As for Suzuno, I am liking her character. She seems very sweet and friendly, though also naïve in some ways. Her love drama she is creating with Satan and Chi is hilarious and very awesome. In addition, I suspect Alciel has a crush on her. She is definitely making things more fun. Still, it feels a bit weird the show would introduce a major character this late into it. Also, we don’t know everything about her yet. She says she’s a fighter, so I suspect we will get some action with her later.
We also got to see more of Emeralda’s character. Up to this point, we haven’t really gotten to see much of her personality, so it’s nice to see how she truly is for a change. Is also nice that her personality is actually very funny, which is helping to make an already hilarious cast even more hilarious.
In addition to the substantial character development, we also got lots of plot development. Obviously, Suzuno is playing a role in the plot. Emilia can now get her celestial force back. Also, the fact that trouble seems to be brewing back in Ente Isla is a major plot development. I have my suspicions as to how this will play out, but I’ll keep them to myself for now so as not to play a potential spoiler for future episodes. We have Satan with his first test as shift manager, which will hopefully be interesting and hilarious. We also got the strange confrontation between Emilia and the magic user, though what this means is unclear.
So far, I’ve noticed we haven’t had the plot develop too quickly in this anime. This is largely because the show is so comedic and humor focused. Still, it’s nice we are getting some plot development, as this keeps the story churning and keeps things moving forward instead of getting bogged down. Given this is The Devil is a Part-Timer Episode 7 out of 13, there’s still time to develop the plot more before the end of the season. I hope the anime paces this well and doesn’t develop the plot too slowly before the finale. I am looking forward to seeing how this plays out.
