WARNING: SPOILERS AHEAD. Overall, I liked this episode, though it did have some flaws. I thought Eddie was a fairly well-done villain for this episode, but he could have come across as scarier. He definitely comes across as psychotic and having a weird mental state. He seems to have a weird combination of being both intelligent and composed while also being crazy and insane. Such a combination definitely works for this kind of a show. He was also a skilled fighter. He was lacking though as he did not come across as scary and intimidating as he should have been.
On another note, I did like the teamwork factor between Zack and Rachel. They are starting to work together better. Rachel’s intelligence, determination, and calm approach to problems is proving very useful to the team, and it provides a nice balance to Zack’s loud, strong, unintelligent, act before you think approach. It is also clear that Rachel cares for Zack. She cares about helping him get out this place and she also cares about making sure Zack keeps his promise. I have a feeling that Rachel’s religious focus is going to continue to play a role in the show. Her religious faith is what has gotten her this far. Otherwise, she may have killed herself already.
As for Zack, he shows himself to be a fairly brave and determined fighter, and this definitely sets up well for later fights. Zack also seems to be slowly taking a liking to Rachel, even if he does not admit it openly. I have a feeling he is soon going to have reservations about killing Rachel toward the end of the show, which could distress Rachel. This could be a major part of the show’s plot later, though it is too early to tell for sure if this will occur.
I do have some other notable concerns about the show going forward. The way this episode worked was a single villain episode on one floor. In addition, Eddie said that each person has the right to kill people on that floor. I noticed that at the end of the episode, they go to another floor. I am worried this may become a repetitive pattern: one villain and one floor per episode, which could become boring after a while. Hopefully, the show does not become too repetitive and predictable going forward. I also hope the show ups the horror and scariness in future episodes, as this episode did not feel super scary.
