WARNING: SPOILERS AHEAD. For Sora no Otoshimono Episode 5, it was fantastic. Once again, Sora no Otoshimono produced another outstanding episode. The humor was outstanding. It had plenty of intrigue. There was strong character development and relationship development between characters. The fanservice was great. We had plenty of tension. There were lots of strong emotions. There was excitement and action. We had some intriguing and tense plot development. This show is showing itself to be a wonderful package of what you want in a fantastic anime.
Looking at the humor, it was once again hilarious. Surprisingly, it was not as focused on Tomoki’s pervertedness in this episode. Tomoki of course played a huge role in it nonetheless. The rest of the characters also contributed heavily to the humor. It’s really nice that this show has a hilarious cast of unique personalities. The way their differing personalities complement and play off of each other is downright hilarious and works wonderfully. In addition, the humor is also unpredictable, partially because of how just absurd and ridiculous it is. Since many of this anime’s elements are so ridiculous and nonsensical, it makes them difficult to predict, which thus makes the humor even better yet.
This episode also had lots of fanservice in it, and it nails it beautifully. The fanservice worked well not just because it has sexy imagery—lots of shows have that. Just showing sexy imagery without more substance behind it would be boring and bad fanservice, and this episode avoided that mistake. Instead, it presents the imagery in a way that is fun, comedic, unique, and very interesting. This makes it fun and enjoyable, not just from sex appeal, but from other elements as well.
As for the more serious and emotional parts, these were excellent. The whole scene with Tomoki nearly getting killed was very tense and emotional. In addition, it was very tense how Ikaros got involved. We also got some nice romance between Tomoki and Sohara.
As for the character and relationship development in Sora no Otoshimono Episode 5, we got to see that Sohara and Tomoki really are in love with each other. Even though their romantic adventure got cut short and Sohara entered one of her usual violent outbursts, the mutual feelings between them are now showing themselves. We also got to see once again how caring and brave Tomoki is deep down when he was trying to help Sohara out and was willing to fight the monster to protect her. This whole scene of him fighting the monster was quite exciting as well. On another note, we also got to meet Mikako’s father and he seems like a very fun character. He appears to like the group, especially Ikaros. It was also nice he repaired Tomoki’s and Ikaros’s house for them for free. Hopefully we’ll see more of him later.
Another intriguing part was when Ikaros took drastic actions to protect Tomoki. This not only helps develop her character, but helps to develop the show’s plot. It’s unclear what was going on with Ikaros. She seemed like she was transforming when she got scared about Tomoki’s safety. This is also intriguing that she was willing to turn to violent action to protect him. Up until now, Ikaros has shown herself to be an incredibly caring and gentle soul who would never harm a fly. Seeing her act so violently and threateningly seems very out of character for her. It wasn’t until Tomoki told her to stop that she finally let the man go. What all this means is unclear. I am looking forward to seeing how this plays out.
