WARNING: SPOILERS AHEAD. Overall, I did enjoy this episode. We got to meet an interesting cast of characters and are getting a very good idea of where this show is going. We also are getting some of the basics of the show made clear. It is obvious this is a comedy. In addition, the show is not taking itself very seriously, which I think is a positive. Sometimes, shows try to take themselves too seriously which makes the ridiculous aspects stick out like a sore thumb. In this case, the show definitely has plenty of ridiculousness, but it embraces those ridiculous aspects openly instead of shying away from them or downplaying them, which makes them work.

As for the characters, Squid Girl so far does not seem very bright. She also seems like a pushover. On a more positive note, she is quite fun and humorous. Additionally, the fact she has powers has lots of potential as there are many routes and plots the show could pursue using her powers. I am looking forward to seeing how she handles things and develops as the show progresses.

Eiko so far seems to be a tsundere, though it is a bit early to say for certain. She also seems unamused by Squid Girls antics. So far, she does not seem too interesting, but I am hoping we get to see more interesting parts of her character as time goes on.

As for Tekuru, he seems quite fun. He seems cheery, optimistic, and full of energy. I like how he goes along full heartedly with Squid Girls antics. He seems like he will be a fun character going forward.

I am also liking Chizuru as a character. She comes across as friendly as long as you don’t push her too far, but she is tough and has limits to her tolerance. She seems like a strong character who has plenty of potential going forward.

For future episodes, the show has plenty of potential and plenty of directions and paths it can flow to. I am curious to see how the characters and plot develop and am looking forward to watching and reviewing the rest of the series. For one, I honestly wonder if the show will focus heavily on the original reason Squid Girl comes to the surface, to deal with pollution, and if this will dominate the plot and story arc. I am also curious whether we continue to get these ridiculous squid references. Something tells me many of these references make more sense in Japanese than they make in the English translation, though I don’t know for certain.
