WARNING: SPOILERS AHEAD. Overall, I enjoyed The Devil is a Part-Timer Episode 6 quite a bit. It was definitely not as serious and high stakes as the previous episode. Instead, it was mainly comedic and humorous, though there were some serious parts. This makes sense. Given we had a very high-stakes and significant episode last time, it’s logical to have a fun, lower-stakes episode afterwards, and it worked out quite well.

Looking at the humor, it was enjoyable and done beautifully. In particular, the episode did a good job surprising the viewer with humor. At this point, it’s expected from this anime that things that appear to be serious at first will end up being humorous and comedic. Still, even with such expectations, there were some parts I genuinely felt on the edge and wasn’t sure at first if it was just another joke or was a serious situation. Having this helps to make the humor more surprising and less predictable, which makes it more enjoyable.

Even the predictable parts of the humor are still great. This is partially because the jokes are so good. It’s also because some of the jokes are so elaborate. Even if part of a joke is predictable that doesn’t mean all of it is. Once again, the humor is also relying on the ridiculous and comedic personalities of the characters. This is now even better since Lucifer has joined the gang and is showing himself to be quite hilarious as well.

Looking at the more serious elements, these were definitely confusing in nature. It is unclear what exactly the church is up to. The scene with the church leaders was confusing, although it seems like they are up to no good. It is also unclear who the individual spying on the group at the school was. The confusion with these elements makes them more interesting and raises intrigue for future episodes.

As for the plot, one major plot development in The Devil is a Part-Timer Episode 6 is having Lucifer living with Alciel and Satan, which seems very positive. He is actually turning out to be a very fun and humorous character, which is a wonderful addition to an already hilarious anime. Clearly the events with the church and the strange person spying are going to tie into the plot somehow, though how is unclear.

We also had several occurrences at the school that went unexplained, like Chi acting strangely and seeing udon for some reason. In addition, we got a surprising addition with the girl who appeared at the end. I also notice we keep getting references to the landlady. This makes me suspect that she’s hiding something and somehow involved in the plot as well. How these tie in with the plot are unclear. I’m looking forward to seeing how this plays out.
