WARNING: SPOILERS AHEAD. This episode felt very different than the other episodes. It was not the best episode in the series, but it was not bad either. The episode ended up being very different than I expected. I was expecting to see some big showdown fight between Danny and Rachel in a similar fashion to other fights. Not having such a fight but instead having the priest act as a corrupt judge was quite surprising.
The beginning of the episode was quite confusing. I am still not sure what the beginning parts really meant with seeing the rabbit, Eddie, and the mirror. This could have been the priest testing her more, but I am not certain. It seems that Rachel is having her faith in God tested. I suspect she will no longer believe in God before too long, which could shift the show’s plot as Rachel may no longer view Zack’s promise as important.
As for the trial, the trial did a nice job exposing Rachel’s emotions. I could definitely feel what types of emotions Rachel is going through while facing unfair and wrongful accusations. In addition, there was actually a touch of humor and comedy in it, which is a rarity for this show. This comedy was a very nice comic relief.
Still, much of the trial felt bizarre and also quite rushed. Overall, I think the trial could have been better done if Rachel had more of a chance to talk and defend herself. This is a missed opportunity the show could have used to expose her emotions and see how she actually feels about the morals of her actions instead of just seeing her not comment on if her actions were moral or not.
As for the priest, he has had some good character development. He seemed like he might have some good in him at first. He did seem to help Rachel to help Zack earlier and warned her about the dangers on Cathy’s floor. At this point however, he has transitioned into clear villain status. I thought this gradual transition of making his character unclear before revealing his true colors was well done. I am curious to see how the show handles him going forward. The obvious route is Rachel and Zack fight and kill him, but the show may surprise us and offer an ironic twist.
